    According to a statement from Buckingham Palace on Thursday, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom "died peacefully." She was 96.


    Just a few hours prior, the palace had revealed that the queen's doctors were "concerned" for her health and had kept her under "medical observation" at Balmoral Castle, the Scottish estate of the British royal family where she had been spending the summer.



    According to each spokesperson, members of the royal family, including the queen's four children, flocked to her side at Balmoral. That afternoon, she passed away.
